Run the brace from the bottom hinge corner up to the top latch corner. That orientation fights sag. Cut it to fit tight, then glue and screw it to the rails.
If the gate is taller than 48 inches, add a center rail. It stiffens the leaf and gives your face boards another fastening line.

A heavy skin makes a light frame feel weak. Keep boards modest, and leave room for movement.
