Plan the Layout and Measure the Span
Before touching a ladder, decide where the lights will run and measure the distance between every anchor point. That measurement tells you how many feet of lights to buy and where the support points need to go. Mark each anchor location with chalk or tape so the installation is symmetrical and intentional.

- Connect additional strands only when the product permits end-to-end connection, and never exceed the manufacturer’s stated maximum strands.
- Keep the first run closest to the power source so the cord reaches without daisy-chaining across the yard.
Leave the plug end accessible and verify the lights work once everything is hung.
Final Checks Before You Call It Done
Walk the full run and look for three things: no cord under tension, no bulb resting against a sharp edge, and no connector sitting where water pools.
