Installing a cattle electric fence means bracing corners, setting posts, running a hot wire at 90 cm, and grounding the energizer with three rods.

An electric fence only holds cattle when the steps happen in order: brace the corners, set the posts, hang the wire, then ground the charger. Most weak fences trace back to that last step — poor grounding produces a line that shocks nothing. Plan the Line and Brace the Corners

Walk the pasture before you dig. Mark where gates need to swing, where the water tank sits, and how you’ll split the field for grazing; then clear the fence line of brush, rocks, and anything else that could short the wire later. Call your local utility locator before setting posts anywhere near buried lines, and keep overhead wires in mind while you string long runs.

Corner and end posts carry the pull of every straight stretch, so they need the heaviest bracing on the job. Set Wire Height and Tension

Where a gate crosses the fence, run the lead wire overhead or use cable rated for burial so the gap doesn’t become a trip hazard. For permanent fences, AHDB suggests burying the insulated power cable about 30 cm (12 in) down inside rigid plastic pipe to protect it from tillage and rodents.
