The Science: Plastic Just Doesn’t Hold Heat

Glass, ceramic, and metal absorb heat during the wash and dry cycles, then release that stored heat afterward. That lingering warmth is what evaporates the last film of water once the cycle ends. Plastic flips the script: it stores very little thermal energy, so it cools off almost immediately, and the droplets left on the surface have no heat source to drive them off.

Water also behaves differently on plastic. Instead of spreading into a thin film that evaporates quickly, water beads up into droplets. Combined with the lack of retained heat, those beads simply sit there until you open the door.
